Carron in the Classroom update

March 2, 2009

Look at the size of our fish now! They’ve changed from orange to brown – the colour trout should be. Tomorrow, Tuesday, our whole class are going out of school to release our fish into the River Carron! We will of course, take lots of pictures to let you see what we’ve been up to.

Sorry for the delay, but we’ve had a technical hitch, which we’ve fixed now. Anyway, it gives us the chance to show you how our fish are progressing. 250 trout eggs were delivered. Our children were split into maintenance groups which change every week. The scientist that brought them showed us how to look after them. We had to check the temperature – to keep it between 5 and 10 degrees ideally, to keep the water aereatad, and to keep the filters unclogged – we use a turkey baster for this!

Watch our slideshow to see how they are growing and how Scott is looking after them.

Carron in the classroom

Our class have been chosen to learn how to rear fish – trout actually. We all went along to Glasgow Science Centre to find out what we had to do. The special tank arrived yesterday. It has to be kept at a cool temperature. The fish eggs arrive on Friday. We’ll keep you updated on what we’ll have to do next!
