Our Assembly

November 29, 2008

On Friday, it was P.6’s turn to host our school’s assembly. As we had learned a lot at the beginning of term on BULLYING (see our earlier post on this), we decided to let the rest of the school know about the conclusions we came to.

We spoke about why bullies bully – to make themselves look tough, they could be jealous of the person they are bullying, they may be being bullied themselves, to get attention or things, or to make people afraid of them.

We then told them what you can do to help it stop. – tell an adult because they can often stop it, always be with your friends, because bullies don’t usually try anything when you are with others, try telling them to stop, your friends can also help if they see you being bullied by taking you away to play with them.

We got our audience – pupils, mums, dads and grandpqrents – involved with plenty of songs and actions. Our songs gave a message – Nobody is a noone and in their own way everybody is a star. I hope you see this in our video below.

A new Black Belt

We have some very talented children in our class. There is an extremely popular Taekwondo club running in Carronshore and a few of our class have already attained black belt status.

Ellise is one of our pupils who has got this recently. We also have Mueed, who attained this a few months before.  They are  showing what a good citizens they are, with the talents they possess.

Here she is preparing to break the board.

Ellise belongs to a talented family. She, plus her sisters, are all black belts. Here they are.

Here is Mueed with the trophy he received for attaining his black belt.

What’s in a name?

October 2, 2008

We’ve been talking about names. We discovered some people are called after other members of their families, like grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles etc. Others are chosen just because they were popular names at the time.
Our teacher told us that 300 years ago, people from Africa were taken from their homes and transported to the west coast of America by Scottish seamen. Their names were changed whether they liked it or not.

We made a podcast of how some of us got our names. Click on the title below to hear it.

Bullying

September 24, 2008

We’ve been talking a lot about different types of bullying and what we can do to help if we see someone being bullied. There was name calling, physical harm, peer pressure, leaving people out, pushing others and stealing others property.

We made a slideshow of our work. We hope you like them.
